Seminar Description

In recent years, the reliability and validity of social science research has been under severe criticism. The critiques include low data transparency, bias toward confirmation of hypotheses, the omission of null or negative results, the non-replicability of findings, low explanatory power, emphasis on theoretical novelty, bias for sophisticated methodology, and the lack of big ideas. These problems damage both the credibility and the usefulness of empirical knowledge. To address the credibility problems, a number of top journals like SMJ, JIBS, MOR, OBHDP (and more to come such as JAP, and EJW&OP) are introducing new policies on Data Accessibility, Replication and Transparency (DART), which will affect how papers are reviewed and what authors need to submit to journals. This seminar will examine the epistemological and ethical foundations of credible knowledge and the consequences of wrongful conclusions. The presenter will review these new journal requirements and discuss how observing them will help authors to better plan and implement their empirical studies for successful publication.
