On April 15th, Dr. Zhang Yuanhui, president of Shenzhen Science & Industry Park Corporation (SSIPC), was officially appointed as a visiting professor of ECUST. The appointment ceremony was attended by Academician Qian Xuhong, president of ECUST, Mr. Zhan Qile, former deputy general manager of SSIPC, Mr. Yi Yue, director of Company Plan Department of SSIPC, Prof. Zhou Weixing and Prof. Fan Tijun from ECUST School of Business, etc. Associate Prof. Ma Ling, deputy dean of School of Business, presided over the ceremony.

In the beginning, Ms. Ma Ling introduced the basic situation and achievements of Dr. Zhang Yuanhui. Later, President Qian Xuhong presented the appointment letter to Dr. Zhang. President Qian warmly welcomed Dr. Zhang and expressed that his coming was of great importance to the development of the Masters’ Programs Center of ECUST. Dr. Zhang, besides expressing his honor to be appointed as a visiting professor of ECUST, also hoped to make contributions to the development of ECUST.

After the appointment ceremony, Dr. Zhang gave a wonderful lecture on “Corporate Governance” to the teachers and students present. He not only introduced the concept, theories and models of corporate governance, but also expounded on the organization and operation of the board, the rights division between the president and the general manager, the reasons why private enterprises lack talents, etc. In the end, he gave some advice on corporate governance based on Chinese culture. The interesting and informative lecture of Dr. Zhang impressed all the teachers and students present, who responded with warm applause.

After the lecture, Dr. Zhang had further discussion with the audience on issues such as the future governance models of Chinese companies, how to solve the internal conflicts in the privatization process of state-owned enterprises, etc. 

Brief introduction to Dr. Zhang Yuanhui:

Zhang Yuanhui received his master’s degree from the Department of Civil Engineering, Dalian University of Technology in 1991. In 1998, he was sent by the Organization Department of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee as a visiting scholar to University of California. He received his PhD in economics from Nankai University In 2002. Currently, he is the president of Shenzhen Science & Industry Park Corporation.

Dr. Zhang published the book “International Business Strategies of China’s Construction Industry”, which exerts great influence on the development of China’s construction industry.
